Art Matters presents Materials Applied

Written by Jake. Filed under Exhibitions. Tagged , . No comments.

Well well, here we are again. Materials Applied is a brand new show curated by Sean Yendrys (same curator as last year’s Narratives in which I was participating) and is part of the famous Art Matters festival. For those who don’t know what Art Matters is, it is quite simply the biggest art show in Montreal. It is run by Concordia University students and happens all over the city in participating venues.

Materials Applied is a show that concentrates on Design Art and explores different and creative iterations of chairs. (Yes you can sit on them!)

I highly recommend going to this show as it will be incredible. Also go take a look at what The Concordian thinks.

What: Materials Applied curated by Sean Yendrys

When: From March 11 2010 to March 20 2010.

Where: Les Territoires in the Belgo building

Vernissage: March 11 from 6 — 8 PM

LIFT

Here’s a beautiful short film made in 2001 by UK filmmaker Marc Issacs who documented the residents of a tower block in London. Isaacs sets up at the most important communal space: the elevators (or the lifts as the brits eloquently call them). As the movie progresses, familiar faces progressively open up to the filmmaker and reveal a variety of details about their private lives.

This deserves to be watched. Put it on your to-do list for when you have half an hour to spare. (fullscreen it)

You most likely won’t see this in time

Valid for Friday January 29, 2010

Commercial photographer Chase Jarvis is currently doing a photoshoot and broadcasting it live. You will get a very rarely behind the scenes look at the creative process. The cameraman is also asking specific questions throughout the session so technical people will also benefit from watching this.

So here we are

done

Finally. It’s done! We finally have a brand new website that works and looks much better than the old one. The major advantage this update brings is that I am no longer tied down to RapidWeaver. Don’t get me wrong, RW is wonderful but Wordpress allows for so much more. (hello enlargement pills spam in the comments)

For those of you who are new to this website, don’t panic. The lack of content is due to the new transition, it’ll get filled back up in no time.
